12:30-1:30pm Women in Engineering Luncheon with Elizabeth Iorns
Women In Engineering and EMBS are delighted to welcome Dr Elizabeth Iorns to speak at our annual Luncheon. Dr Iorns will be sharing her inspiring work as co-founder and CEO at the Science Exchange, and her reflections about women in science and engineering. All genders are welcome to attend this exciting event, and plenty of time will be saved for a facilitated Question and Answer period after Dr Iorns talk, plus networking over a delicious Hawaiin lunch. Dr. Elizabeth Iorns is co-founder and CEO of Science Exchange, the online marketplace for scientific research. She is also an active angel investor and a part-time partner at Y Combinator, a seed-stage accelerator widely regarded as “the world’s most powerful start-up incubator”. Her recent investments include Perlara, NURX, Antera, Notable Labs, and (via Y Combinator) Gingko Bioworks, Atomwise, and Bikanta. Elizabeth has been recognized as one of the “Ten People that Mattered” by Nature Magazine and one of the “50 Women Who Are Changing The World” by WIRED. Elizabeth was previously an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, where her research focused on identifying mechanisms of breast cancer development and progression. She holds a B.S. in Biomedical Science from the University of Auckland and a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from the Institute of Cancer Research in London.
