Call for Mini-Symposia Proposals

We are inviting proposals for Mini-Symposia at EMBC26. Mini-Symposia are dedicated to talks and panel discussions from leading researchers. Mini-symposia should be 90 minutes long (similar to oral sessions) and they should include a list of speakers related to a current topic of interest which is relevant to EMBC. Inviting some speakers from the industry is encouraged if possible. Technical or scientific topics within biological and biomedical engineering, medicine, health care, clinical applications, and nontechnical talks e.g. biomedical education, research funding, entrepreneurship, or technology transfer are welcome.

Important regarding conference mini-symposia:

  • Each mini-symposia will be 90 minutes long.
  • Mini-Symposia proposals should have no less than 4 speakers, and no more than 6 speakers.
  • Mini-Symposia organizers and speakers are required to pay regular conference fees and travel costs.
  • There are no papers or abstracts associated with the mini-symposia

Your proposal should include the following Information:

  • Title
  • Summary: A brief description of no more than 200 words intended for publication that will provide conference attendees with information regarding the suggested topic.
  • Rationale: An explanation on why the topic is novel, why it is relevant to the EMBS community, and how it fits within the themes of this conference.
  • Duration (90 minutes): The length of the individual talks (15- or 30-minute).
  • Contact information for proposer(s): The name, affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  • Speaker information: The title of each speaker’s talk, along with their full name, affiliation, email address, a one-paragraph biography, 1–2 relevant citations related to their proposed talk, and a link to their webpage to support the assessment of their scientific rigor.
  • Confirmation from each of the speakers that they have agreed to be present at the workshop
  • Evidence of any necessary company and governmental clearance obtained prior to submission of proposals.
  • The speakers are not expected to submit papers related to their mini-symposium talks, and their talks will not appear in the proceedings of the conference.

  • The proposals for Mini-Symposia will be assessed based on the following criteria:

    • Novelty of the topic
    • Relevance to the EMBS community
    • Scientific rigor of speakers
    • Gender and geographical diversity of speakers
    • Adherence to guidelines
