Review Process
After the regular review of EMBC 2024, the TOP 10 papers with the best reviews that opted in for the Young Professional Paper Competition will be considered. After checking for eligibility, each paper will undergo a new phase of review and will be scored by the members of the YP committee in four competitive categories:
- Relevance and Interest to EMBS: The paper addresses current and active fields in biomedical engineering, ensuring its strong relevance and interest for the EMBS community’s readership.
- Synergy between research areas: The authors address the targeted problem by incorporating innovative, potentially interdisciplinary findings from research fields beyond biomedical engineering.
- Novelty: The research methodology is original, and the results advance current knowledge with high scientific impact.
- Translation to Industry: The findings exceed a mere proof of concept, demonstrating clear potential for near-term translation into practice and industry.
For each category, 0-3 points are assigned. The TOP 3 papers with the highest scores will be awarded.
Ceremony
Based on the judgment, three finalists will be invited to the conferences and the recognitions will be awarded in a dedicated session organized by the YP committee. The corresponding YP author must attend the Conference and the ceremony. Next to an honorarium, the recipients will be granted a plaque that includes details on the competition along with a certificate. Additionally, the winners will be prominently featured on the EMBS YP website and social media.
- $1,500 USD for the first place winner
- $1,250 USD for the second place winner
- $1,000 USD for the third place winner
In addition, there will be a partial travel reimbursement of $500 for each winner.
