Young Professional (YP) Paper Competition

In 2024 there will be a new initiative at the Annual International Conference of the EMBS, the Young Professional Paper Competition! The YP Committee organizes this novel activity that will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Péter Kovács of Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary) and Dr. Nicolai Spicher of University Medical Center Göttingen (Germany).

Competition Eligibility

  • The corresponding author must be a Young Professional, i.e. they must have received their first post-secondary degree (e.g. Bachelor’s level or an associate degree) within the past 15 years and are not currently a student or graduate student.
  • Only full paper (4+ pages) submissions at EMBC 2024 are eligible.
  • The paper must be self-nominated to the competition via an opt-in during paper submission.
  • The plaques must be received by the winners in person at the IEEE EMBC 2024.

Judgment

After the regular review of EMBC 2024, the TOP 10 papers with the best reviews that opted-in for the Young Professional Paper Competition will be considered. After checking for eligibility, each paper will undergo a new phase of review and will be scored by the members of the YP committee in four competitive categories. For each category, 0-3 points are assigned. The TOP 3 papers with the highest scores will be awarded.

Ceremony

Based on the judgment, three finalists will be invited to the conferences and the recognitions will be awarded in a dedicated session organized by the YP committee. Next to an honorarium, the recipients will be granted a plaque that includes details on the competition along with a certificate. Additionally, the winners will be prominently featured on the EMBS YP website and social media.

Honorarium

  • 1st place: $1,500
  • 2nd place: $1,250
  • 3rd place: $1,000

In addition, there will be a partial travel reimbursement of $500 for each winner.
